Would anyone like to share their thoughts/understanding of baptism? The more detailed, the better. Please include where your understanding comes from, church/religious affiliation, and feel free to present your own questions. I can't answer them but I'd like to know what your thoughts are.

I had to stand up as god-mother to a child recently. We had to do this seminar beforehand, to prep/teach us about baptisimals.

Basically, we were told that if a baby isn't baptised it's not considered one of God's children and if you die without being baptised, you wont go to heaven.

I don't know my thoughts on that exactly. I'm not overly religious (by the book), but I'm definitely a christian. I guess I have my own views on this sort of thing.

I think if you're a good person. That's what counts.

I, myself, was baptised, and I will get my children baptised if I have any in the future. But I don't know if I believe that a good person, who isn't baptised, is doomed to hell.

Anyhow.. I'm loving your blog. I'll definitely be following.

Check out mine, i think you'd especially love it:

I have no thoughts on Baptism. Its not something I would ever think of, as it has no meaning in my life. Then again, I'm an atheist and secular humanist.

Damn it, now you forced me to think about it. I don't believe in original sin (or sin in the biblical sense at all).

I was baptized into the Catholic church as an infant. I have heard many things over the years that after you are saved the next step is baptism and so forth. I believe there is only 1 factor that assures going to heaven and that is John 3:16 ( you must believe in God and that Jesus died for your sins) and everything else is personal beliefs. I feel that baptism is up to the individual and if they feel it is significant in their life and means something symbolic to them.
