just an observation...

Mina's eczema is giving me lots of gray hair. I thought it was just one or two, but upon further investigation there were fifteen that I pulled yesterday. I looked again today, and do you know what? DO YOU? There were about a zillion more hiding underneath. I'm 25 and already I give up. I'm going to have that intriguing salt and pepper look before I'm 30. Things like this don't so much BOTHER me as they fascinate me. When I was host to Mina I used to stand in front of the mirror every day, watching with morbid curiosity as dark red stretch marks ripped across my skin. There wasn't anything I could do about it. I already drank gallons and gallons of water every day and was properly greased up due to HER eczema problem...I gained the recommended 25 lbs, blah blah. I look in the mirror a lot. It's not because I'm vain. I am vain, but that's not why I look in the mirror. I am studying the changes that happen. I love to inspect just about anything so I am always looking at my skin and hair. Sometimes I feel like a chimpanzee when I do that..

Leta reminds me of a chimpanzee. She is so tiny and so defiant, it's hard not to think it's cute.

Fabric softener sheets are tools of the devil. I have been using the free/clear kind thinking this would be fine. I believe I was very seriously mistaken.

Thank you and good night.

Happy Birthday, Mina!

It's been a wild three years since I met the little person I'd been growing in my belly...

Today the girls were up before 7 and had ripped through the presents by 7:15. I feel like I get to have three birthdays a year now. It's so much fun to watch them figure out new toys.

I made a big pan of scrambled eggs and thought about what to do...I knew it was just going to be us today so I thought it would be nice to go explore some new place. There are a lot of little farms in the area where you can go pick your own ___, so I went online to figure out which one was closest. We decided to go to an apple orchard. It was the sweetest little place with an adorable little lady munching on an apple and a couple of dogs running around... The girls piled into a wagon and Jason pulled them around the orchard, stopping to pick low-lying apples off of trees. They thought it was so much fun just to ride in the wagon, and it was so cute to watch Mina pull with all her might at the apples. We also bought some fresh cider and have yet to try it...but I can hardly wait!

We came home and had apples, bananas and peanut butter and played with Mina's "paint with water" coloring books until it was time to take a nap.

I made Mina's favorite dinner:

-cut a couple of chicken breasts into bite sized pieces and throw into pan
-2 c. tomato juice, 1 onion (quartered), 4 garlic cloves, 1/3 c. apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp. salt, cayenne pepper to taste, 1/2 tsp. cumin, 1 tsp. oregano into blender
-pour sauce over chicken and simmer, covered, 45 minutes

Mina likes it with avocado slices. I like it over rice with colby/jack cheese. Everyone will eat it and that is what I care about. plus it's pretty darn easy!

After dinner Mina was very content playing and Leta was MISERABLE with a cold so I put her to bed early.

It was really a great day. I love my family.

Peep!

I know I've been awfully quiet lately. I've been writing a lot, just not here. It's almost too much to try to play catch up. I'm going to pretend I've been writing here all along instead.

Mina has finally stopped being afraid of the TV I think! She was having some visual sensitivities and now seems fine. I don't know what that was all about but I lowered her dose of cod liver oil. *shrug*

We're going to the zoo on Saturday morning and anyone who wants to come is welcome to. I got a fabric play-crown for Mina to wear during birthday festivities. I had to stop myself from buying the tu-tu. But it sure would have been cute... Anyway, we have nothing planned on the 1st which is her actual birthday. Hmm...maybe we could go to "Little Amerika" or whatever...eh, I think Mina's too young for that. I'll think of something. My mom is coming down on the 7th so we'll do something birthday-ish of course. I also have to make a cake that Mina can eat. I'm thinking banana cake with peanut butter frosting for my little monkey. I'll have to look online for a recipe. EEK! Only a few days left!

It's also Jason's birthday next week. I don't have any brilliant low-budget ideas either. I'll have to consult my "idea girl".

There, I broke the ice...

I don't know the story behind this one, I just thought it was funny... Posted by Picasa

The locals made Shannon and Laney this custom potty, as they were not used to squatting...or so the story goes. Posted by Picasa

Look at how far Mina's drawings are coming! See the train and the puff of smoke, it even has a 1 on it...there's a cherry tree, train tracks, and snails in the water! Look at the detail on that train. Man, she's not even 3.  Posted by Picasa

OF COURSE the A/C broke today.

Why, hello, Hottest Day of the Year!

I have very little to say. I'm excessively tired because Leta is walking as of a couple weeks ago and IT'S ALL OVER NOW.

I started two new portraits of the girls. I just have them sketched out right now and haven't actually worked up the energy to paint yet.

There's a change happening. I can tell. I don't know what yet, but I can smell the storm approaching. I feel quiet lately, internalized. I'll let you know when I figure it out.

Garage Sale Heaven

Today Mina and I went to the Goth Girl Garage Sale in our old neck of the woods (Atwood neighborhood). It was great because goth girls are always buying and selling their clothing...lots of black dresses and skirts. I bought a long, african printed skirt. It's black, yellow, brown and white. I also bought Jason a Henry Rollins book that apparently he read when it came out...but THIS one is big and glossy with pictures. It's some kind of diary of touring with Black Flag or something... I think Jason likes it when I think of him while I'm shopping.

Actually, the whole neighborhood was having a garage sale. I also bought three CDs: Porno for Pyros, Arrested Development, and Sinead O'Connor. Mina got a new Arthur book. It was fun to walk around with her, looking for treasure... I saw a cool chair that I wish was brand new. It would be the perfect "dad" chair and it was aesthetically pleasant/modern looking. I should have asked where it came from.

A lot of houses are for sale in that neighboorhood. I would love to live there, but... I have to wonder how all of these artsy hippies can afford to live there. Am I missing something?
